Understanding the characteristics of your materials and composing them to create a tectonic value is priceless. At GRADE, we rely heavily on our materials to convey a message. The combination of marble, glass and steel have been a way to express power, grace and beauty for centuries. One of the most studied examples is the Barcelona Pavilion by Mies Van deRohe. I am not sure if that was Hedi Slimane’s reference for this store front but the use of marble slabs, glass doors with steel detailing is as sophisticated and bold as Mie’s masterpiece and consistent with the Saint Laurent brand. There is artistry to creating such luxurious, stately design solutions and Saint Laurent has mastered it.
